GOALS OF THE CASTING SIMULATION:
- the casting process is tested for improvement of casting performance and stability
- avoidance of technical casting errors, limitation of error sources such as phenomena of mould filling such as turbulences, mould erosion, oxide formation as well as phenomena of solidification such as microstructure, shrinkage or residual stress formation
- dimensional accuracy: minimization of casting distortion (depends on wall thickness distributions)
- economic aspects: optimization of casting and heat treatment processes
- efficiency aspects: design of the casting technology with minimum use of energy and raw materials
- information gain (knowledge management)
